Bio

Daniel Keene 
is a guitarist, lutenist, composer, arranger, and educator based in New York. 

Born and raised in Long Island, NY, Mr. Keene began studying the guitar at the age of nine. He studied with William Zito on lute and guitar, Stephen Leonard on guitar, voice with Jonathan Goodman, and composition with Sidney Boquiren. Mr. Keene attended both Nassau Community College and Adelphi University on scholarship and in January 2009, graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Classical Guitar Performance.

An active and versatile performer, Mr. Keene has concertized extensively on lute and guitar as a soloist and chamber musician in New York and along the East Coast. He has performed at the Tilles Center of the Performing Arts, ShapeShifter Lab, Adelphi University PAC, Hofstra University, Nassau Community College, Great Neck Arts Center, and at a multitude of theaters, churches, and wedding halls. 

Mr. Keene is a member of the Barone-Keene Duo with pianist Kristin Barone, performing works for guitar & lute and piano & harpsichord. Together, Ms. Barone and Mr. Keene are the founding members of the Enceladus Ensemble. No stranger to musical theatre, Mr. Keene has performed on bass and guitar in productions of "Rent," "Urinetown," "Big," and Leonard Bernstein's "Mass."

For over ten years, Mr. Keene has offered guitar instruction to students of all ages and levels in New York City and across Long Island. His students have been accepted to the Manhattan School of Music, SUNY Purchase, LIU Post, SUNY New Paltz, Five Towns College, the University of Hawaii, and the University of California. Mr. Keene is an adjunct professor at Adelphi University.
